The new Malaccamax ship-to-shore crane arrived at the terminal last Sunday, October 24, aboard the Zhen Hua 36 vessel, consigned by COSCO SHIPPING Lines. This new addition is part of CSP Spain’s investment plan focused on increasing the competitiveness of the Valencia port by improving the services and capacity of its facilities.

The addition of this new machinery at CSP Iberian Valencia Terminal is part of the investment plan the company is implementing in the Valencia port for the three-year period 2020-2022. This investment has already included the acquisition of new machinery, such as the six RTGs commissioned last year, and the development of new technologies to improve operations. The investment plan still includes the purchase of more container handling equipment, most notably a new STS crane, which will be installed next year.

The new STS 21 was manufactured by ZPMC, a world-leading company specializing in the design and construction of port equipment. Its features include Siemens motors, control and power systems, ZPMC gearboxes, Sibre brakes, a Bromma STS45 spreader with six flippers and SCS4 control, an Alimak elevator, a Merdford ergonomic cabin, and 100% LED lighting by Nanhua.

The operation has been successfully completed, and the terminal is scheduled to be operational by mid-December. To this end, the terminal is being supported by a team of engineers and specialists from the Chinese factory ZPMC, who have traveled to Spain with the aim of bringing it into production before the end of the year.

Last Monday, the Port Authority of Valencia presented the “socarrat,” the traditional Valencian commemorative tile, to Captain Guo, marking the ship’s first call at the Port of Valencia. Representatives from the Port Authority of Valencia, COSCO SHIPPING Lines, and CSP Spain attended the ceremony. Representing the Port Authority were Aurelio Martínez and Manuel Guerra, President and Deputy General Manager, respectively. COSCO SHIPPING Lines was represented by Javier Cubas and Paco Medina, Valencia Branch Office Manager and Global Key Accounts Manager, respectively. Finally, CSP Spain was represented by Ken Chan (CEO), Elías García (COO), Eduardo Orellana (Production Manager of CSP Iberian Valencia Terminal), and Ignacio Cambrón (Technical Director of CSP Iberian Valencia Terminal).

Together with the 3 Malaccamax cranes already operating on the dock, which has 2,310 meters of berthing line, it will allow the terminal to operate the largest container ships on the market that exceed 20,000 TEUs, in addition to increasing its operational capacity by 30%, reaching 5 million TEUs of annual capacity.

Key features of the crane include its twin-rotor lifting capacity of 2 x 20′, its handling capacity of up to 65 tons under the spreader, and 75 tons under the hook. Its seaward reach of 68.5 meters allows it to work on vessels up to 25 containers wide, with trolley and gantry lifting speeds of 180 m/min, 240 m/min, and 45 m/min, respectively.

CSP Spain, present in Spain since 1973, belongs to the CSPL Group, the world’s largest port operator. This business group has more than 46 container terminals worldwide and handles over 90 million TEUs globally.

You can watch the Malaccamaz download video here

· The new, larger crane will be the 21st at the docks of the Valencia terminal · An addition within the company’s investment plan for the three-year period 2020-2022 that will exceed 62 million euros of investment, which are added to the 100 million invested in recent years Valencia, October 27.
