Last week, an oversized nacelle was successfully unloaded at CSP Spain’s Valencia terminal. The wind turbine component weighed over 50,000 kilograms and had a volume of 146,101 cubic meters.

In this case, the exceptional nature of the project required the placement of 3 flat racks on board the ship to create the cradle that would allow the piece to be stowed on board. The nacelle will be repaired over the next few weeks and, once the repair is complete, loading operations will resume.

Special cargoes involve a more complex operation than containerized cargo in the routine operation of a terminal. That is why the Valencia terminal has a team dedicated to this type of cargo, which, together with the ship’s and line’s personnel, cooperates to ensure the success of the operation. Specifically, Spain’s position as a world leader in the manufacture of these types of parts for wind farms has meant that the terminal has made an effort to be able to offer these exceptional services in terms of safety, prevention, and the trust of its clients.

On this occasion, the unloading was carried out from the CMA CGM IGUACU vessel, one of the new flagship vessels of the line powered by LNG, the company’s latest commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its activity. This vessel is part of CMA CGM’s MEX service, within the OCEAN ALLIANCE, which calls weekly at CSP Iberian Valencia Terminal, connecting the Mediterranean with Asia. Specifically, this piece has been transported from Busan (Korea) to the Valencian dock.

The port of Valencia handles 40% of maritime imports and exports at the state level. This objective was achieved thanks to the cooperation of the port community and the effort to be the most competitive, which means working for excellence in all types of loading and unloading operations, as exemplified by the operation of this special cargo.

Valencia, September 8.
