Following tests carried out regularly over the past few months in collaboration with transport companies, the terminal, located in the ADIF PLAZA Zaragoza Rail Hub, confirms the satisfactory results and its immediate capacity for regular operations for this type of service.

Ferro-rail freight is a type of rail freight transport in which trains transport, using special wagons, trucks with their trailers or just the trailers from a terminal of origin, which they reach by road, to a terminal of destination where, once unloaded, they continue their journey by road.Rail freight, also known as rail motorway, is developed on existing rail network lines and aims to leverage the advantages of rail transport, such as safety and cost-effectiveness, as well as those of road transport, such as direct access to loading/unloading points. Rail freight is a segment of combined rail-road transport, separate from maritime containers and swap bodies, within the broader framework of intermodal transport. It involves moving goods in a single cargo unit or road vehicle, successively using two or more modes of transport without handling the goods between different modes. This type of transport guarantees a door-to-door service that is far more environmentally friendly than road transport (a rail freight train between Algeciras and Zaragoza can transport up to 28 semi-trailers), generating significant savings in CO2 emissions and also reducing the social and operating costs of road transport. The rest of Europe is already operating this type of train extensively, and in Spain, the north-south connections and the various sections of the Mediterranean Corridor more than justify its implementation.

APL and ADIF met in September 2020 with the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras to address the port authority’s request for rail freight terminal services in Aragon. The terminal’s capacity to provide this service would initially be set at two trains per day, and it has been estimated that by adapting a parking area of approximately 6,000 m² on land adjacent to ADIF’s container terminal at the Zaragoza PLAZA Logistics Centre (CLF), this capacity could be tripled immediately without further investment.

In recent months, international road transport operators and integrated logistics operators have conducted trials at the Aragonese terminal, with satisfactory results. This confirms the CSP Spain group’s terminal’s capacity to handle this type of traffic immediately.

The terminal operated by CSPZ in Zaragoza, located in the ADIF Logistics Center (CLF) in the PLAZA industrial park, is the largest intermodal terminal in Spain, with 7 loading/unloading tracks (6 under spreaders) with over 750 net meters between bays, and excellent road and rail connections. CSP Iberian Zaragoza Rail Terminal was established in 2013 to operate this terminal and provide intermodal services for the Plaza Zaragoza logistics center. The terminal aims to strengthen the rail corridors connecting the hinterlands of the ports of Valencia and Bilbao with Zaragoza, as well as the development of the Central and Atlantic rail corridors that link Zaragoza with the south-central part of the Iberian Peninsula and the ports along the Atlantic coast.

· The tests carried out in recent weeks at the terminal enable it to offer the service immediately • Rail transport helps reduce the environmental impact of transportation by reducing CO2 emissions Zaragoza, November 20, 2020 CSP Iberian Zaragoza Rail Terminal (CSPZ), a subsidiary of the CSP Spain group, confirmed to ADIF and the Government […]

[34

post-1911","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-csp-iberian-zaragoza-rail-terminal
["GET
