The terminal has reduced its GHG emissions by 20% in the last decade and its carbon footprint per TEU moved by 15% in the period 2022-2025, thanks to a sustained investment of 22 million euros in energy efficiency, digitalization and hybrid equipment.

Bilbao, October 20, 2025. CSP Iberian Bilbao Terminal, S.L., a strategic operator in port services at the Port of Bilbao, has received the Organization’s Carbon Footprint certificate awarded by AENOR, in recognition of the conformity of its management system with the requirements established in the international standard ISO 14064-1:2018. This recognition certifies the verification of its greenhouse gases and the strength of its environmental management system.

The terminal has achieved a 20% reduction in its GHG emissions in the last decade (2014-2024), as a result of its sustained strategy of investment and continuous improvement. In the period 2022-2025 alone, the company has managed to reduce its carbon footprint by 15% in terms of tons of CO2 per TEU moved and by 21% per employee, consolidating its position as a benchmark in sustainability within the logistics-port sector.

This progress has been made possible thanks to a cumulative investment of 22 million euros over the last 10 years, allocated to key initiatives such as the incorporation of hybrid RTG cranes, the improvement of the energy efficiency of the equipment, and the digitization of operational processes. These actions have made it possible to optimize energy consumption and minimize the environmental impact of their operations.

Furthermore, the upcoming addition of a new state-of-the-art Ship-to-Shore crane, with more efficient technology and lower energy consumption, is expected to have an additional positive impact on reducing the terminal’s carbon footprint in the coming years.

“In a sector undergoing profound transformation, sustainability is no longer an option, but a responsibility. This certification is a firm step on our path towards greener logistics,” stated Elvira Gallego, General Manager of CSP Iberian Bilbao Terminal, S.L.

With this certification, CSP Iberian Bilbao Terminal reaffirms its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to the transition to a low-carbon economy, consolidating its leadership in environmental management within the port ecosystem.
