Valencia, November 3

Last Tuesday, the container ship GFS SAPPHIRE was operated in the Valencia dock, marking the debut of the new Turkey-Valencia Express Service promoted by the Cordelia Container Shipping Line company.

The service connects Spain with Turkey and is scheduled to call weekly at four ports: Istanbul (Kumport), Gebze (Beldeport), Valencia, Barcelona, and again Istanbul (Kumport). The service is operated with the aforementioned vessel and the Sea Dragon, both with an approximate capacity of 700 TEUs.

This service is the company’s first connecting Turkey and Spain and aims to strengthen ties in response to the growing trade between the two regions. According to ICEX, trade in goods between the two countries is balancing out in 2021, with exports to Turkey increasing by 29% and imports from Turkey by 32%.

This same year, Spain ranked 7th as a customer and 13th as a supplier in the Turkish market. Spanish exports to Turkey in containers include chemicals, construction materials, paper and pulp, machinery, and general tools, among other products. Meanwhile, clothing, automobiles, tractors, and iron castings are the most prominent Spanish imports.

The ship was docked in the Valencian basin, worked for one day and carried out more than 120 movements between loading and unloading.

CSP Iberian Valencia Terminal S.A.U. is part of the CSP Spain group. Its strategic location makes it a key transit point for major maritime transport routes connecting Spain and Europe with other continents, making it the leading terminal in the Mediterranean region.
