· CSP Spain’s rail operator, CSP Iberian Rail Services, inaugurated the Valencia-Zaragoza service this week, a commitment to connecting the peninsula and reducing the environmental impact of logistics activity
Valencia, June 17, 2021
Last Tuesday, June 15th, CSP Iberian Rail Services began its new Valencia-Zaragoza service. The train departed from Valencia terminal around 5:00 PM and arrived at PLA-ZA in the early hours of the morning. Today, the second round trip is operating again at the Valencia dock.
Managed by the logistics operator CSP Spain and pulled by Logitren, it has successfully completed its first rotation, connecting the Mediterranean-Cantabrian Corridor section and others with departure or destination in Valencia.
CSP Spain founded its intermodal operator in 2018 with the aim of uniting its maritime and intermodal terminals and offering a door-to-door service, connecting the Iberian Peninsula.
The opening of this service is conceived as an opportunity for Aragonese companies to increase their international connectivity thanks to the connections of the port of Valencia and the operational capacity of CSP Iberian Zaragoza Rail Terminal.
This year marks the Year of Rail, promoted by the European Commission, in a context where we have recognized that caring for the planet is fundamental to our safety. Rail freight transport has the lowest environmental impact. Its development is a declaration of intent by CSP Spain focused on improving the present and sustaining the future, as part of its corporate mission to be the ports for everyone.
The industries that benefit most from this service are those typical of the Aragonese hinterland: textiles, paper, automotive supplies, meat processing, and especially alfalfa. According to the Spanish Association of Dehydrated Alfalfa Manufacturers (AEFA), the amount of this product exported in the last season reached 1,212,011 tons, almost 11% more than in the 2019-2020 season. The United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and China are the main recipient countries of this commodity, and these destinations are also part of the main maritime routes to which the Port of Valencia is connected.
CSP Iberian Rail Services was created in 2018 with the aim of offering a 360-degree service to customers of the group’s terminals, including last-mile and door-to-door rail services. Since its creation in 2018, it has grown positively with various daily connections, reaching 17,000 TEUs handled in 2020, and the development of new services such as the one recently launched.
