· Eco-incentives are part of the Sustainable and Digital Transport Support Programme, financed with European funds NextGenerationEU
· A total budget of 75 million euros spread over 3 calls for proposals between 2022 and 2024 with the main objective of encouraging freight transport by rail
Valencia, December 4, 2023
“These subsidies, granted to bidders based on rail traffic, have the main purpose of encouraging traffic growth, so that the essential criterion for granting the subsidies is precisely the increase in traffic compared to the previous year, a basic data point that is correlated with the energy and environmental efficiency of the exact means used for transport, since the ultimate goal is to reward the savings in external costs achieved by transporting the increased freight by rail compared to road.”
With an initial budget of 75 million euros, the aid is divided into 3 calls for the years 2022, 2023 and 2024. The eco-incentives are part of the NextGenerationEU action program, an instrument approved by the European Council in July 2020, in order to contribute to the reduction of external environmental and socio-economic costs through the promotion of rail freight transport, and are integrated into the Sustainable and Digital Transport Support Program included in component 6 of the Recovery, Transition and Resilience Plan (PRTR) promoted by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.
The perception of this type of incentive is vital to boost the strategic commitment that CSP Logitren, and its parent company CSP Spain, are making towards the use of material and productive means that contribute to corporate decarbonization objectives.
As stated by the AEFP (Association of Private Railway Companies): “These subsidies, granted to bidders based on rail traffic, have as their main purpose to incentivize traffic growth, so that the essential criterion for granting the subsidies is precisely the increase in traffic compared to the previous year, a basic data point that is correlated with the energy and environmental efficiency of the exact means used for transport, since the ultimate goal is to reward the savings in external costs achieved by transporting the increased goods by rail compared to road.”
