• A clear commitment at 3 levels: efficiency, sustainability and technology, with an investment of 20 million euros

Valencia, October 3

Port operator CSP Spain has acquired eleven hybrid RTG cranes from Finnish manufacturer Konecranes. These are the first hybrid RTG cranes to be commissioned in Europe and will be installed at the group’s maritime terminals, specifically six in Bilbao and five in Valencia.

The purchase of the new machinery was finalized in July 2022 at a cost of €20 million. This investment confirms the company’s commitment at all levels: improved productivity in the Bilbao and Valencia docks, reduced environmental impact, and a commitment to new technology, better operational efficiency, and increased safety for operators.

The new rubber-tired gantry cranes will be fully operational and working to provide a more efficient and sustainable service starting at the end of October 2023. This type of hybrid RTG (Rubber Tired Gantry) is characterized by its environmentally friendly fuel consumption, allowing for up to 50% fuel savings compared to conventional RTGs. In terms of safety and ergonomics, they feature state-of-the-art systems, such as laser collision avoidance, anti-lifting mechanisms for trucks and trailers, and remote monitoring systems.

The benefits of hybrid port cranes are significant. In addition to the use of batteries, they offer notable reductions in the following areas: fuel consumption, operating costs, greenhouse gas emissions, and noise pollution.

This addition of new machinery to CSP Spain’s maritime terminals represents a commitment, progress, and continuous improvement to the energy efficiency and environmental protection strategy that the company implements in all its business units.
