Santurtzi, June 7, 2021. The Containerships Borealis, one of the newest and largest vessels in the Containerships fleet, has become the first LNG-powered ship to dock at the Port of Bilbao. Launched in March of this year, it measures 170 meters in length, 27 meters in beam, has a draft of 9.6 meters, and a capacity of 1,380 containers. The ship docked at our CSP Iberian Bilbao Terminal after arriving from Rotterdam and Dunkirk, and will depart today for Tilbury and Rotterdam.
Containerships is the first container shipping company in Europe to launch LNG-powered vessels, as part of the CMA CGM group’s sustainability strategy. Currently, six vessels in its fleet are LNG-powered. With seven weekly sailings from the Port of Bilbao, the company has provided direct connections for decades between Bilbao and the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Poland, Norway, Russia, and other European destinations.
