This morning, the new USX – United States Express service, handled by Marítima Dávila and operated by Ellerman City Liners, was inaugurated at the CSP Iberian Bilbao Terminal. This service directly connects Bilbao with the east coast of the USA. It is part of the company’s commitment to the Port of Bilbao, as outlined in its corporate strategy.
The event was attended by Ricardo Barkala (President of the Port Authority), Andima Ormaetxe (Director of Operations, Commercial and Logistics of the Port Authority), Captain Rogelio Daganta (Captain of the ship), Pelayo Dávila (CEO of Grupo Dávila), Jorge Sánchez (Director of Dávila Bilbao), Elvira Gallego (General Manager of CSPB), Elías García (COO of CSP Spain), and Francisco Pérez (Chief Captain of the Fiscal and Border Company of the Civil Guard). During the ceremony, the Port Authority of Bilbao presented the Captain with a plaque.
The new service is weekly and is operated by container ships with a capacity exceeding 3,000 TEUs. The inaugural vessel was the BUX FAVOURITE, which is scheduled to make 171 cargo movements (loading and unloading) today.
Among the main advantages of the new service is the reduction in transit times, with imports taking 15 days and exports 18 days on the direct route between Bilbao and New York. This makes it a highly competitive option in a context where trade between the two regions is very important, and it also highlights the geostrategic location of the port of Bilbao on an international level. The complete route is Bilbao, Antwerp, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Tilbury, New York, Wilmington, and Jacksonville.
The United States is Bizkaia’s main non-EU trading partner, so the introduction of this service is a strategic move to further boost connections and business in the port’s hinterland. Furthermore, as confirmed at the 11th Bizkaia-United States Business Forum organized by the Bilbao Chamber of Commerce, now is the time to promote business in the region because there is a significant opportunity for companies in northern Spain due to the economic growth policies implemented in the United States.
