- Unifying the logistics chain in rail and port services
Valencia, July 21, 2021
Logistics and transport account for 7.9% of Spain’s GDP, representing a business worth €111 billion annually. Connectivity between Spanish logistics centers is key to further developing this economic sector and is a primary objective of COSCO SHIPPING Spain.
The company has four ports: two maritime and two dry ports located in the Iberian Peninsula’s most important logistics hubs: Bilbao, Madrid, Zaragoza, and Valencia. In recent years, the company’s objective has been to connect its terminals, leading to the creation in 2018 of CSP Iberian Rail Services, the intermodal operator that enables door-to-door freight connections for its clients, offering a comprehensive 360-degree service.
In the last month, the logistics operator has strengthened its connections by establishing a service that connects Valencia with Zaragoza with 3 weekly rotations, which complements the existing Valencia-Madrid service, which has 5 weekly rotations.
The Port of Valencia is the leading container port in Spain, the fourth largest in Europe, and the 27th largest in the world. The Valencian dock is connected to major shipping routes and serves as the maritime gateway to the Spanish capital. Its connection to the logistics hubs of Madrid and Zaragoza is key to boosting transport for Spanish companies located in the surrounding hinterlands, particularly those in the textile, paper, automotive, and agri-food sectors, including alfalfa.
This rail transport service allows goods to reach Asian ports in under 30 days, the United States in under 15 days, and Africa in under a week. Furthermore, these services can be complemented with truck delivery to the client company’s factory or logistics center, allowing them to manage the entire operation with a single point of contact, thus increasing productivity at all levels.
COSCO SHIPPING is aligned with the “One Road One Belt” initiative and through its divisions COSCO SHIPPING Lines and COSCO SHIPPING Ports in Spain offer an End2End combined transport product that meets the strategic objectives of both “We Deliver Value” and “The Ports for ALL”, linking the main ports of the world with Valenciaport, the best connected port in Spain and the fourth in Europe.
